MULTI-DAY TRIPS

Discover Niokolo-Koba National Park

Day 1: Arrive at Dakar Yoff International Airport where your guide will welcome you and take you to your hotel. Enjoy a free evening; either relax and recover from your travels or explore the town with your guide. The first night, dinner is on you.

Day 2: After breakfast at the hotel, depart for Dialakoto with a stop for lunch in Kaolack. Spend the night at the center for eco-tourism in Dialakoto.

​

Days 3 and 4

Option 1 (February - June only): Enter Niokolo-Koba National Park. Venture out to Mount Assirik (311 m), the highest mountain in the park, where you can view buffalo, chimpanzees, and Derby Elands, the largest antelopes in the world. Spend the first night camping in a tent on the mountain plateau. The next day, traverse the park to the Simenti area to tour the many lakes and wetlands where wildlife congregate. Ride a boat along the Gambia River where you can spot hippos and crocodiles. Dine and spend the second night in thatch huts at Campement du Lion along the banks of the Gambia River.

Option 2 (October - June): Visit the western part of Niokolo-Koba National Park. Tour the many lakes and wetlands of the Simenti area where wildlife congregate. Ride a boat along the Gambia River where you can spot hippos and crocodiles. Dine and spend both nights in thatch huts at Campement du Lion along the banks of the Gambia River.

Day 5: Depart for Dakar. On the way visit the central outdoor market in Tambacounda. Lunch on route and dinner in Dakar.

​

Day 6: After breakfast, take a short boat ride out to Goree Island, a small picturesque island that long served as an outpost for slave trading. Tour and lunch on Goree Island. Return to Dakar to visit the famous Soumbedioune market. Enjoy your last dinner by the sea before heading to the airport or continuing on.

Day 2: After breakfast at the hotel, depart for Dialakoto with a stop for lunch in Kaolack. Spend the night at the Des Amis de la Nature Center for Eco-Tourism in Dialakoto.

Day 3: After breakfast, trek 7km along bush paths to the village of Bantancolling. Enjoy a traditional Mandinka meal and observe and partake in a traditional Mandinka folk dance. Spend the night in a tent in the village. 

​

Day 4: After breakfast, trek 7km back towards Dialakoto, but this time on a different bush path. Pass through the village of Tinghoto, where you can visit the farm fields and mango orchards of the hard-working Jakhanke people. Return to Dialakoto and spend the night at Des Amis de la Nature Center for Eco-Tourism.

Day 5: After breakfast, trek 7km along bush paths to the villages of Pulaar herdspeople. Pass through fields of cotton, corn, peanuts, and other subsistent food crops, and the roaming Pulaar herds of cattle and sheep. Enjoy a traditional Pulaar meal at the village chief's compound followed by a traditonal Pulaar folk dance. Spend the night in a tent in the village.

Day 6: After breakfast, head to Niokolo-Koba National Park. Tour the many lakes and wetlands where wildlife congregate. Dine and spend the night along the banks of the Gambia River. 

​

Day 7: After breakfast, depart for Dakar. On the way, visit the central outdoor market in Tambacounda. Lunch en route and dinner in Dakar. Spend the night at La Maison des Amis de la Nature in Dakar. 

​

Day 8: After breakfast, take a short boat ride out to Goree Island, a small picturesque island that long served as an outpost for slave trading. Tour and lunch on Goree Island. Return to Dakar to visit the famous Soumbedioune market. Enjoy your last dinner by the sea before heading to the airport or continuing on. 

​
